Themed Tuesdays: Gatsby-Inspired Weddings

You've undoubtedly seen the many previews and posters for the new Great Gatsby movie. (If, by some chance, you live under a rock and don't know what I'm talking about you can see a preview here.) So you had to know that the inevitable "Gatsby-inspired Wedding" post was coming.

This wedding theme is very close to me, since I've been planning to style my wedding around the Jazz Age. If I could be born in any other decade, it would be the 20's. The "Roaring 20's" epitomized glamour and decadence, so when styling your Gatsby-inspired wedding, make sure to incorporate these key elements from the decade:

  • Bold, geometric shapes
  • Gold or silver accents
  • Peacock feathers
  • Pearls
  • Lace
Hopefully this helps you get a better idea of how to style your Gatsby-inspired wedding!

 Cake
When designing your cake, try to include a hint of gold or silver, but keep it at just a hint, otherwise it could look
a little too gaudy. I would avoid any floral or overly feminine accents.

Bouquet
The bridal bouquet or floral centerpieces would be a good place to incorporate peacock feathers. I also love how the bride in the second photo added a diamond brooch for some extra opulence.

Headpiece
Instead of a traditional veil go for a statement-making headpiece. Make sure it has diamonds, rhinestones, pearls, feathers, the works.

Invitations
Try to use geometric trim and a vintage font when designing your invitations. The more ornate, the better.

 Centerpieces
I would incorporate candles, crystals, and ostrich feathers

Themed Tuesday: Modern Wedding

Today's post is all about modern weddings. Bright colors, geometric shapes, and funky centerpieces are all characteristic of a contemporary wedding. Modern weddings are usually held in unique locations like museums, libraries, or even aquariums. Here is some fun modern wedding inspiration for you to check out, courtesy of Pinterest.

Themed Thursday: Nautical Themed Wedding

I missed Themed Tuesday, but I don't feel like waiting till  next week to post this theme. This week's theme is about nautical weddings. I love the colors associated with nautical weddings. Deep blues, reds, and khakis aren't really limited to any particular season, which makes this theme so great. It could be spring, summer, fall, or winter, and this theme would be appropriate.

Themed Tuesdays

Tuesdays are going to be all about themed wedding ideas. Before getting engaged, anytime I heard about a themed wedding, I pictured a corny Under the Sea theme with hors d'oeuvres being served off of seashell shaped plates and awful sea green mermaid-cut bridesmaid dresses. After a little bit of reading and researching, I've found that themed weddings aren't nearly that terrible.

This week's post looks at vintage weddings. There's a fine line between a great touch of vintage and a 20's-themed halloween party. I've found some gorgeous weddings on Style Me Pretty that had the perfect hint of nostalgia, without compromising the couples' own individual styles.

While a vintage wedding may not be for me, I definitely have a great appreciation for a well done themed wedding. I don't find them any less beautiful than a non-themed wedding or any other wedding, for that matter. What's most important is the bride and groom sharing their love for one another with their family and friends. Ew, that was too corny for me. I shouldn't write these posts before I've had my morning coffee. Enjoy your vintage inspiration below.

Peacock feathers, hydrangeas, and old postcards give this program table a great vintage feel.

The pearls and fishnet veil are the perfect touch of old glamour
without looking too kitschy.

Vintage-style stemware, cutlery, and plates with simple vases to display the flowers.

I love the peacock feather and vintage font on this drink menu.
